Sd.Kfz. 231, Sd.Kfz. 232, Sd.Kfz. 233 6 and 8 wheeled armoured cars, used by Wehrmacht during the Second World War.
The development of an armored car based on the chassis pf 6×4 truck was ordered in 1929. Schwerer Panzerspähwagen 6-rad had engine mounted in the front as in normal truck. Chassis was strengthened to take the additional weight, and second steering control was added at the rear.
Development of a 8-rad Schwerer Panzerspähwagen with improved cross country mobility was ordered in 1934. Designated Versuchskraftfahrzeug 623 and 624, an 8 wheeled chassis was developed to carry the armored body and turret.
Production ceased in September 1942 to be repleced by the SdKfz 234 Puma series.
