The squadron’s codes were yellow with a red outline, the reverse of those of typical Bomber Command squadrons. The squadron codes of the “Specials” were “YZ”, those of its normal Lancasters being “KC”. With their reduced armament and slow speed, the Specials were escorted to their targets by unmodified bombers.
