Lancaster NG494 PD114 PD119

Lancasters KC-B NG494, YZ-B PD114 and YZ-J PD119 of No. 617 Squadron RAF, 1945

The squadron’s codes were yellow with a red outline, the reverse of those of typical Bomber Command squadrons. The squadron codes of the “Specials” were “YZ”, those of its normal Lancasters being “KC”. With their reduced armament and slow speed, the Specials were escorted to their targets by unmodified bombers.
